The Thirty-second Miracle of Messiah:

Mattai 17:14-20

וַיְהִי כְּבוֹאָם אֶל־הֲמוֹן הָעָם וַיִּגַּשׁ אֵלָיו אִישׁ וַיִּכְרַע עַל־בִּרְכָּיו לְנֶגְדּוֹ׃ וַיֹּאמַר אֲדֹנִי רַחֵם־נָא עַל־בְּנִי כִּי־מֻכֵּה יָרֵחַ הוּא וְחָלְיוֹ רָע כִּי־פְעָמִים רַבּוֹת הוּא נֹפֵל בָּאֵשׁ וּפְעָמִים רַבּוֹת אֶל־תּוֹךְ הַמָּיִם׃ וָאָבִיא אֹתוֹ אֶל־תַּלְמִידֶיךָ וְלֹא יָכְלוּ לִרְפֹּא לוֹ׃ וַיַּעַן יֵשׁוּעַ וַיֹּאמֶר הוֹי דּוֹר חֲסַר אֱמוּנָה וּפְתַלְתֹּל עַד־מָתַי אֶהְיֶה עִמָּכֶם עַד־מָתַי אֶשָּׂא אֶתְכֶם הָבִיאוּ אוֹתוֹ אֵלַי הֵנָּה׃ וַיִּגְעַר־בּוֹ יֵשׁוּעַ וַיֵּצֵא הַשֵׁד מִמֶּנּוּ וַיֵּרָפֵא הַנַּעַר מִן־הַשָׁעָה הַהִיא׃ וַיִּגְּשׁוּ הַתַּלְמִידִים אֶל־יֵשׁוּעַ וְהוּא לְבַדּוֹ וַיֹּאמְרוּ מַדּוּעַ אֲנַחְנוּ לֹא יָכֹלְנוּ לְגָרֲשׁוֹ׃ וַיֹּאמֶר יֵשׁוּעַ אֲלֵיהֶם מִפְּנֵי חֹסֶר אֱמוּנַתְכֶם כִּי אָמֵן אֹמֵר אֲנִי לָכֶם אִם־יֵשׁ בָּכֶם אֱמוּנָה כְּגַרְגַּר הַחַרְדָּל וַאֲמַרְתֶּם אֶל־הָהָר הַזֶּה הֵעָתֵק מִזֶּה שָׁמָּה וְנֶעְתַּק מִמְּקוֹמוֹ וְאֵין דָּבָר אֲשֶׁר יִבָּצֵר מִכֶּם׃

כַּאֲשֶׁר בָּאוּ אֶל הֲמוֹן הָעָם נִגַּשׁ אֵלָיו אִישׁ וְכָרַע עַל בִּרְכָּיו לְפָנָיו. אָמַר הָאִישׁ: “אֲדוֹנִי, רַחֵם נָא עַל בְּנִי. הוּא מֻכֵּה יָרֵחַ וּמַחֲלָתוֹ קָשָׁה, כִּי לְעִתִּים קְרוֹבוֹת הוּא נוֹפֵל לָאֵשׁ וּלְעִתִּים קְרוֹבוֹת לַמַּיִם. הֵבֵאתִי אוֹתוֹ אֶל תַּלְמִידֶיךָ וְהֵם לֹא יָכְלוּ לְרַפְּאוֹ.” הֵשִׁיב יֵשׁוּעַ וְאָמַר: “הוֹי דּוֹר חֲסַר אֱמוּנָה וּמְעַוֵּת דֶּרֶךְ, עַד מָתַי אֶהְיֶה עִמָּכֶם? עַד מָתַי אֶסְבֹּל אֶתְכֶם? הָבִיאוּ אוֹתוֹ הֵנָּה אֵלַי!” גָּעַר יֵשׁוּעַ בַּשֵּׁד וְהַשֵּׁד יָצָא מִמֶּנּוּ. מֵאוֹתָהּ שָׁעָה נִרְפָּא הַנַּעַר. לְאַחַר מִכֵּן נִגְּשׁוּ הַתַּלְמִידִים אֶל יֵשׁוּעַ לְבַדָּם וְשָׁאֲלוּ: “מַדּוּעַ לֹא יָכֹלְנוּ אֲנַחְנוּ לְגָרֵשׁ אוֹתוֹ?” הֵשִׁיב לָהֶם: “בִּגְלַל מִעוּט אֱמוּנַתְכֶם. אָמֵן אוֹמֵר אֲנִי לָכֶם, אִם יֵשׁ לָכֶם אֱמוּנָה כְּגַרְגִּיר הַחַרְדָּל וְתֹאמְרוּ לָהָר הַזֶּה ‘זוּז מִפֹּה לְשָׁם’ – הוּא יָזוּז, וְשׁוּם דָּבָר לֹא יִבָּצֵר מִכֶּם. פ

As they (Yeshua and his talmidin) came to the crowd of the people, a man approached him and got down on his knees across from him. He said, “My Master, please have compassion on my son, because he is struck by the moon (epilepsy), and his illness is severe. Often he falls into the fire, and often into the midst of the water. I brought him to your talmidin but they were not able to heal him.” Yeshua answered and said, “Alas, O crooked generation that lacks faith! How long will I be with you? How long will I bear you? Bring him here to me.” Yeshua reprimanded (rebuked) the demon, and it left him, and the young man was healed from that hour. The talmidin approached Yeshua when he was alone, and they said, “Why were we not able to drive it out?” Yeshua said to them, “It is because of the lack in your faith. For amen, I say to you, if you have faith like a mustard seed and you tell this mountain, ‘Be moved from here to there,’ it will be moved from its place. There is nothing that will be impossible for you.”

Markos 9:14-29

וַיְהִי כְּבוֹאוֹ אֶל־הַתַּלְמִידִים וַיַּרְא עַם־רָב סְבִיבוֹתָם וְסוֹפְרִים מִתְוַכְּחִים עִמָּם׃ וְכָל־הָעָם כִּרְאוֹתָם אֹתוֹ כֵּן תָּמָהוּ וַיָּרוּצוּ אֵלָיו וַיִּשְׁאֲלוּ־לוֹ לְשָׁלוֹם׃ וַיִּשְׁאַל אֶת־הַסּוֹפְרִים מָה־אַתֶּם מִתְוַכְּחִים עִמָּהֶם׃ וַיַּעַן אֶחָד מִן־הָעָם וַיֹּאמַר רַבִּי הֵבֵאתִי אֵלֶיךָ אֶת־בְּנִי אֲשֶׁר־רוּחַ אִלֵּם בְּקִרְבּוֹ׃ וּבְכָל־מָקוֹם אֲשֶׁר יֹאחֲזֵהוּ הוּא מְרַצֵּץ אֹתוֹ וְיָרַד רִירוֹ וְחָרַק שִׁנָּיו וְיָבֵשׁ גּוּפוֹ וָאֹמַר אֶל־תַּלְמִידֶיךָ לְגָּרֲשׁוֹ וְלֹא יָכֹלוּ׃ וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם הוֹי דּוֹר חֲסַר אֱמוּנָה עַד־מָתַי אֶהְיֶה עִמָּכֶם עַד־מָתַי אֶשָׂא אֶתְכֶם הָבִיאוּ אֹתוֹ לְפָנָי׃ וַיְבִיאֻהוּ לְפָנָיו וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר רָאָהוּ וַיְזַעֲזֵעֵנוּ הָרוּחַ פִּתְאֹם וַיִּפֹּל אַרְצָה וַיִּתְגּוֹלֵל וַיּוֹרֶד רִירוֹ׃ וַיִּשְׁאַל אֶת־אָבִיו כַּמָּה יָמִים הָיְתָה־לּוֹ זֹאת וַיֹּאמֶר מִימֵי נְעוּרָיו׃ וּפְעָמִים רַבּוֹת הִפִּיל אֹתוֹ גַּם־בָּאֵשׁ גַּם־בַּמַּיִם לְהַאֲבִידוֹ אַךְ אִם־יָכֹל תּוּכַל רַחֵם עָלֵינוּ וְעָזְרֵנוּ׃ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יֵשׁוּעַ לֵאמֹר אִם־תּוּכַל אָמָרְתָּ כֹּל יוּכַל הַמַּאֲמִין׃ וַיִּתֵּן אֲבִי הַיֶּלֶד אֶת־קֹלוֹ בִּבְכִי וַיֹּאמַר אֲנִי מַאֲמִין אֲדֹנִי עֲזָר־נָא לְחֶסְרוֹן אֱמוּנָתִי׃ וַיַּרְא יֵשׁוּעַ אֶת־הָעָם מִתְקַבֵּץ אֵלָיו וַיִּגְעַר בָּרוּחַ הַטָּמֵא וַיֹּאמַר רוּחַ אִלֵּם וְחֵרֵשׁ אֲנִי מְצַוְּךָ צֵא מִמֶּנּוּ וְאַל־תֹּסֶף לָבוֹא־בוֹ עוֹד׃ וַיִּצְעַק וַיְזַעֲזֵעַ אֹתוֹ מְאֹד וַיֵּצֵא וַיְהִי כַמֵּת וְרַבִּים אָמְרוּ כִּי גָוָע׃ וַיַּחֲזֵק יֵשׁוּעַ בְּיָדוֹ וַיְעִירֵהוּ וַיָּקֹם׃ וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר בָּא הַבַּיְתָה וַיִּשְׁאָלֻהוּ תַלְמִידָיו בִּהְיוֹתָם אִתּוֹ לְבַדָּם לֵאמֹר מַדּוּעַ אֲנַחְנוּ לֹא יָכֹלְנוּ לְגָרְשׁוֹ׃ וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם הַמִּין הַזֶּה יָצֹא לֹא יֵצֵא כִּי אִם־בִּתְפִלָּה וּבְצוֹם׃

כַּאֲשֶׁר הֵם בָּאוּ אֶל הַתַּלְמִידִים רָאוּ עַם רַב סָבִיב לָהֶם וְסוֹפְרִים מִתְוַכְּחִים אִתָּם. כָּל הֶהָמוֹן, בָּרֶגַע שֶׁרָאוּ אוֹתוֹ, תָּמְהוּ מְאֹד וְרָצוּ אֵלָיו וּבֵרְכוּהוּ בְּבִרְכַּת שָׁלוֹם. שָׁאַל אוֹתָם: “עַל מָה אַתֶּם מִתְוַכְּחִים אִתָּם?” הֵשִׁיב לוֹ אֶחָד מִן הֶהָמוֹן: “רַבִּי, הֵבֵאתִי אֵלֶיךָ אֶת בְּנִי אֲשֶׁר רוּחַ אִלֶּמֶת בְּקִרְבּוֹ. בְּכָל מָקוֹם הָרוּחַ אוֹחֶזֶת בּוֹ וּמַפִּילָה אוֹתוֹ, וְהוּא מַעֲלֶה קֶצֶף, חוֹרֵק שִׁנָּיו וְגוּפוֹ מִתְקַשֶּׁה. אָמַרְתִּי לְתַלְמִידֶיךָ שֶׁיְּגָרְשׁוּ אוֹתָהּ, אַךְ הֵם לֹא יָכְלוּ.” הֵשִׁיב וְאָמַר לָהֶם: “הוֹי דּוֹר חֲסַר אֱמוּנָה, עַד מָתַי אֶהְיֶה עִמָּכֶם? עַד מָתַי אֶסְבֹּל אֶתְכֶם? הָבִיאוּ אוֹתוֹ אֵלַי.” הֵבִיאוּ אוֹתוֹ אֵלָיו. רָאֲתָה הָרוּחַ אֶת יֵשׁוּעַ וּמִיָּד זִעְזְעָה אֶת הַיֶּלֶד. הוּא נָפַל אַרְצָה מִתְגּוֹלֵל וּמַעֲלֶה קֶצֶף. שָׁאַל יֵשׁוּעַ אֶת אָבִיו: “מִמָּתַי זֶה קוֹרֶה לוֹ?” הֵשִׁיב: “מִקַּטְנוּתוֹ, וּפְעָמִים רַבּוֹת גַּם הִפִּילָה אוֹתוֹ עַל אֵשׁ וּלְתוֹךְ מַיִם כְּדֵי לְהָמִית אוֹתוֹ. אֲבָל אִם אַתָּה יָכוֹל לַעֲשׂוֹת מַשֶּׁהוּ, רַחֵם עָלֵינוּ וַעֲזֹר לָנוּ.” אָמַר לוֹ יֵשׁוּעַ: “‘אִם אַתָּה יָכוֹל’?! הַכֹּל אֶפְשָׁרִי לַמַּאֲמִין!” מִיָּד צָעַק אֲבִי הַיֶּלֶד וְאָמַר: “אֲנִי מַאֲמִין, עֲזֹר נָא לִי בְּחֶסְרוֹן אֱמוּנָתִי!” כְּשֶׁרָאָה יֵשׁוּעַ הֲמוֹן עַם רָצִים וּמִתְקַבְּצִים, גָּעַר בָּרוּחַ הַטְּמֵאָה וְאָמַר לָהּ: “רוּחַ אִלֶּמֶת וְחֵרֶשֶׁת, אֲנִי מְצַוֵּךְ, צְאִי מִמֶּנּוּ וְאַל תִּכָּנְסִי בּוֹ עוֹד!” הִיא צָעֲקָה, זִעְזְעָה אוֹתוֹ מְאֹד וְיָצְאָה. הוּא הָיָה כְּמֵת וְרַבִּים אָמְרוּ שֶׁהוּא מֵת. אָחַז יֵשׁוּעַ בְּיָדוֹ, הֵקִים אוֹתוֹ וְהוּא קָם. כְּשֶׁנִּכְנַס יֵשׁוּעַ הַבַּיְתָה שְׁאָלוּהוּ תַּלְמִידָיו בִּיחִידוּת: “מַדּוּעַ לֹא יָכֹלְנוּ אֲנַחְנוּ לְגָרֵשׁ אוֹתָהּ?” הֵשִׁיב לָהֶם: “הַמִּין הַזֶּה אֵינוֹ יָכוֹל לָצֵאת אֶלָּא בִּתְפִלָּה.” פ

When he (Yeshua) came to the talmidin, he saw a large group of people around them and scholars arguing with them. All the people, when they saw him, were indeed amazed, and they ran to him and they asked of his shalom. He asked the scholars, “Why are you arguing with them?” One of the people answered and said, “Rabbi, I brought my son to you, who has a mute spirit within him, and wherever it grips him, it crushes him—his saliva runs down (is foaming), he grinds his teeth, and his body dries up (gets rigid). I told your talmidin to drive it out, but they could not.” He answered and said to them, “Alas, O generation lacking faith! How long will I be with you? How long will I bear you? Bring him before me.” They brought him before him, and when he saw him, the spirit suddenly crushed him and he fell on the ground. He rolled around and his saliva ran down. He asked the (boy’s) father, “How many days has he had this?” He said to him, “Since the days of his youth. It has often thrown him into both the fire and the water to destroy him. But if you really can, have compassion (mercy) on us and help us!” Yeshua (the Voice of Adonai) said to him, “You said, ‘If you can.’ One who has faith will be capable of anything.” The father of the boy lifted his voice in weeping and said, “I believe Adoni; please help my lack of faith!” Yeshua saw the people gathering to him, and he reprimanded (rebuked) the impure spirit and said, “Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, go out from him and never come into him again!” It screamed and greatly crushed him, and it came out. And he became like the dead, and many said, “He has passed away.” Yeshua grasped his hand and roused him, and he arose. When Yeshua entered the house his talmidin asked him privately, “Why were we not able to drive it out?” He said to them, “This type only comes out with prayer and fasting.”

Lukas 9:37-45

וַיְהִי מִמָּחֳרָת בְּרִדְתָּם מִן־הָהָר וַיֵּצֵא עַם־רַב לִקְרָאתוֹ׃ וְהִנֵּה אִישׁ אֶחָד מִן־הָעָם זֹעֵק לֵאמֹר אָנָּא רַבִּי פְּנֵה־נָא אֶל־בְּנִי כִּי יָחִיד הוּא לִי׃ וְהִנֵּה כִּי אָחַז בּוֹ רוּחַ הוּא מְצַעֵק פִּתְאֹם וְהָרוּחַ מְרוֹצֵץ אֹתוֹ בְּהוֹרִיד רִירוֹ וּמַקְשֶׁה לָסוּר מִמֶּנּוּ וִידַכֵּא אֹתוֹ׃ וָאֲבַקֵּשׁ מִתַּלְמִידֶיךָ לְגָרֲשׁוֹ וְלֹא יָכֹלוּ׃ וַיַּעַן יֵשׁוּעַ וַיֹּאמַר הוֹי דּוֹר חֲסַר אֱמוּנָה וּפְתַלְתֹּל עַד־מָתַי אֶהְיֶה עִמָּכֶם וְאֶשָּׂא אֶתְכֶם הָבֵא אֶת־בִּנְךָ הֵנָּה׃ וַיְהִי אַךְ הִקְרִיב לָבוֹא הִפִּילוֹ הַשֵּׁד וַיְרוֹצֲצֵֵהוּ וְיֵשׁוּעַ גָּעַר בָּרוּחַ הַטָּמֵא וַיְרַפֵּא אֶת־הַנַּעַר וַיְשִׁיבֵהוּ לְאָבִיו׃ וַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֲמוּ כֻלָּם עַל־גְּדֻלַּת הָאֱלֹהִים וַיְהִי בְּתָמְהָם כֻּלָּם עַל־כֹּל אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה וַיֹּאמֶר יֵשׁוּעַ אֶל־תַּלְמִידָיו׃ שִׂימוּ אַתֶּם בְּאָזְנֵיכֶם אֶת־הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה כִּי עָתִיד בֶּן־הָאָדָם לְהִמָּסֵר בִּידֵי בְנֵי־אָדָם׃ וְהֵמָּה לֹא הֵבִינוּ אֶת־הַמַּאֲמָר הַזֶּה וַיְהִי נֶעְלָם מִדַּעְתָּם וַיִּירְאוּ לִשְׁאֹל אֹתוֹ עַל־הַמַּאֲמָר הַזֶּה׃

כַּאֲשֶׁר יָרְדוּ מִן הָהָר בְּיוֹם הַמָּחֳרָת, בָּאוּ עַם רַב לִקְרָאתוֹ. “רַבִּי”, צָעַק אִישׁ מִן הֶהָמוֹן, “אֲנִי מִתְחַנֵּן אֵלֶיךָ, הַבֵּט נָא אֶל בְּנִי, כִּי בֵּן יָחִיד הוּא לִי. רוּחַ אוֹחֶזֶת בּוֹ וְהוּא צוֹעֵק פִּתְאוֹם; הִיא מְזַעְזַעַת אוֹתוֹ עַד שֶׁהַקֶּצֶף יוֹרֵד מִפִּיו, מִתְעַלֶּלֶת בּוֹ וּבְקֹשִׁי מַרְפָּה מִמֶּנּוּ. בִּקַּשְׁתִּי מִתַּלְמִידֶיךָ לְגָרֵשׁ אוֹתָהּ וְלֹא יָכְלוּ.” הֵשִׁיב יֵשׁוּעַ: “הוֹי דּוֹר חֲסַר אֱמוּנָה וּמְעַוֵּת דֶּרֶךְ, עַד מָתַי אֶהְיֶה עִמָּכֶם וְאֶסְבֹּל אֶתְכֶם? הָבֵא אֶת בִּנְךָ הֵנָּה!” בְּעוֹד הוּא מִתְקָרֵב אֶל יֵשׁוּעַ הִפִּילוֹ הַשֵּׁד וְזִעְזַע אֶת גּוּפוֹ. אַךְ יֵשׁוּעַ גָּעַר בָּרוּחַ הַטְּמֵאָה וְרִפֵּא אֶת הַיֶּלֶד. לְאַחַר מִכֵּן הֶחֱזִירוֹ לְאָבִיו, וְהַכֹּל הִשְׁתּוֹמְמוּ עַל גְּדֻלַּת הָאֱלֹהִים. “הַטּוּ אָזְנֵיכֶם לַמִּלִּים הָאֵלֶּה: הִנֵּה עָתִיד בֶּן־הָאָדָם לְהִמָּסֵר לִידֵי אֲנָשִׁים.” ךְ הֵם לֹא הֵבִינוּ אֶת אֲשֶׁר אָמַר, כִּי מַשְׁמָעוֹ הֻסְתַּר מֵהֶם שֶׁלֹּא יָבִינוּ – וְגַם פָּחֲדוּ לִשְׁאֹל אוֹתוֹ עַל הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה. פ

The next day, when they went down from the mountain, a large group of people came out to greet him (Yeshua). A certain man among the people was crying out, saying, “Please, rabbi, please turn to my son, for he is my only one! Look, a spirit has gripped him! He cries out suddenly and the spirit crushes him and makes his saliva run down (foam). It resists departing from him and it oppresses him. I asked your talmidin to drive it out, but they were not able.” Yeshua answered and said, “Alas, crooked generation that lacks faith! How long will I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.” He was just on the brink of arrival when the demon battered and crushed him. Yeshua reprimanded (rebuked) the impure spirit and healed the young man. He returned him to his father. All of them were astounded over the greatness of God. While all of them were amazed about all that he had done, Yeshua said to His talmidin, “Place these words in your ears! For the ben ha’adam will ultimately be handed over (betrayed) to the sons of men.” They did not understand this saying. It was concealed (hidden) from their minds (so that they would not perceive it), and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

Three Details:

The Affliction: The boy suffered from a condition causing violent seizures, loss of speech, foaming at the mouth, and dangerous falls into fire and water.

The Setting: After descending from the Mount of Transfiguration, Yeshua found his talmidim struggling to cure the boy because of their lack of faith.

The Healing: Yeshua asked the boy’s father to bring the child forward, rebuked the unclean spirit causing the illness, and the boy was cured instantly.

Three Lessons:

Power of Faith: When asked why the disciples could not heal the boy, Yeshua explained it was due to their unbelief. He noted that even faith as small as a “mustard seed” can move mountains.

Help with Unbelief:  The boy’s father provides a deeply moving example of human struggle and faith. The father cries out, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Prayer and Fasting: When the disciples ask why they could not cast out the spirit, Yeshua tells them that “this kind can come out only by “prayer.”

Divine Authority of Messiah:

This miracle clearly demonstrates Rabbi Yeshua’s total authority over demonic forces and destructive physical ailments. While the spirit attempts to destroy the boy through fire and water, it must instantly submit to Christ’s verbal command. By delivering the boy, Rabbi Yshua signals that the Kingdom of God has broken into the earthly realm, actively pushing back the dominion of darkness and chaos.

Absolute Dependence vs. Self-Sufficiency:

Talmidim’s Failure: The disciples had previously been given authority to cast out spirits, yet they failed here. Their failure warns against ritualism and self-sufficiency. They likely relied on their past successes or technical formulas rather than active reliance on God.

Role of Prayer: When asked why they failed, Yeshua responds, “This kind can come out only by prayer” (and fasting in some manuscripts). This underscores that spiritual breakthrough requires ongoing, desperate intimacy with God; rather than treating divine power like a mechanical tool.

Death to Life:

After the demon exits, the boy falls so still that the crowd believes he is dead. Rabbeinu Yeshua then takes him by the hand and lifts him up. The vocabulary used here mirrors resurrection language, serving as a message within-the message of redeemed humanity being rescued from the death of sin and raised by God to new life through His Messiah.
