The Messiah teaches the Truth shall set us free…
(On the Eighth day of Atzeret and Simchat Torah)
Yeshua said to the Yehudim who believed in him, “If you truly stay in my words, you are my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will bring you out to freedom.” They answered him “We are the offspring of Avraham, and in our days we have never been the slave of anyone. Why do you say, ‘You will be free men’?”
Yeshua answered them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, anyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. Now the slave does not reside in the house forever. The son will reside forever. Thus, if the Son makes you into free men, you will truly be free. I know that you are the offspring of Avraham, but you are seeking to put me to death because my word will not be established among you. I am speaking of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have (heard and) seen with your father.”
They (the religious leaders) answered and said to him, “Our father is Avraham.” Yeshua said to them, “If you were sons of Avraham, you would have done the deeds of Avraham. But now you are seeking to put me to death—me, the man who has spoken the truth to you, which I have heard from God. Avraham did not do this. You are doing the deeds of your father.” They said to him, “We are not children of immorality. We have one Father, who is God.” Yeshua said to them, “If only the Almighty were your Father! For then you would love me, because I have gone forth and come from God. Yes, I did not come from myself, but He sent me. Why do you not know my tongue? It is because you are not able to hear my words. You are from your father, the satan, and you desire to carry out your father’s craving. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he has not stood in the truth because he does not have truth in him. Whenever he speaks deception, he speaks from his heart, because he is a deceiver and the father of deception. But since my word is true, you will not believe me. Who among you will rebuke me concerning iniquity? If I have spoken the truth, why will you not believe me? Whoever is from God will hear the words of God. You have not heard because you are not from God.”
Then (the leaders of) the Yehudim (the hyper-orthodox Prushim) answered and said to him, “Have we done well by saying that you are a Shomroni with a demon in you?” Yeshua answered, “There is no demon in me. I only bring honor to my Father, but you show contempt for me. Surely I will not search for my own honor. There is One who will search and judge. Amen, amen, I say to you, if anyone will keep my word, he will never see death.” The Yehudim (Prushim) said to him, “Now we know that there is a demon in you. See Avraham and the prophets died. What are you making yourself?” Yeshua answered, “If I bring honor to myself, my honor is nothing. My Father is the One who brings honor to me, of whom you say, ‘He is our Almighty One’ (God). But you do not know Him. I do know Him and if I said I do not know Him, I would be a deceiver like you. But I know Him and I have kept His Word. Avraham your father rejoiced to see my day. He saw it and was glad.” The Yehudim (Prushim) said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old. You have seen Avraham?” Yeshua said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, before the existence of Avraham, I was.” By then they were lifting stones to pelt him (for blasphemy), but Yeshua hid himself and went out of the Temple. He passed through them, going further and further away.” (This narrative of the celebration of the Eighth day in Jerusalem is continued in “Messiah in Simchat Torah“).
The witness of Mount Ebal and Mount Gerazim:
Were He to pass by me, I would not see Him;
Were He to move past me, I would not perceive Him.
Under the witness of the first Administration of the Law of Moses we are sinners, lawbreakers, declared unrighteous (by our own failed works) and in need of a Savior (Mount Ebal, cursed under the Law of Moses). Under the witness of the second Administration of the Law of the Spirit (Living Torah) we are cleansed of our sin and declared righteous by faith (Mount Gerazim, blessed under the Law of Messiah, i.e. the Law of the Spirit). Under the witness of the second Administration of the Spirit of Grace we are declared righteous not by our (own flawed) works but by the perfectly virtuous works of the Holy Spirit. Faith in one’s own deficient works is dead faith (stagnant water). Faith in the works of the Holy Spirit is living faith (Living Water). Therefore, our faith in the Torah of Moses without the empowerment of the Living Torah of the Holy Spirit is dead.
The Unity of one Spirit, one Lord, and one Eloheinu Avi-Khol:
The ultimate companion revelation to the written Law is not the oral tradition of men (the rabbinates, the Bramble Bush King). The ultimate oral tradition is every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Spirit of Grace and Truth. The Spirit of Holiness once He Indwells every Jewish man, woman and child will fill the earth with His loving-wisdom. Only when we are empowered by the Indwelling Presence of the Spirit of the Holy One will each and every one of us possess the blessedness (ashrei) of our own fig tree (a worshipful spiritual life) and vine (a Divinely inspired and empowered life of chesed-ahavah love). Then (at last) will our prayer for Unity in the Shemah be fulfilled. For then there will be one universal calling, one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one mikveh (lit. this word means a “collection,” a complete collection of “all” of the works of the Spirit; i.e. immersion into the death to sin will lead to immersion into the eternal life of the Spirit), and one Eloheinu Avi-Khol (Our Mighty Father of All), Who is above All, through All, and in All!
The Royal Law of heaven is the Torah of the Spirit:
Now that the Living Torah of the Spirit is available to all who believe in the promise of Messiah it is incumbent that all who believe in the Law of Moses, who have humbled themselves and eaten of the poor bread of repentance (teshuvah) and submission (the grain of barley), also receive the royal gift of righteousness from heaven.
The gift of the Royal Law is the gift of the New Heart that is our guarantee we will one day be perfect as our heavenly Father is Perfect.
This being accomplished not by our own power but by the gracious power, grace, and virtue of the Holy Spirit. The Gift of the Torah of the Spirit is the power to fulfill the Law by His Power. Not our own. The Torah of the Spirit is the rain/reign from heaven that floods the earth with the knowledge (experience) of Abba Avinu.
The Torah of the Spirit is our Reign from Heaven:
The Torah of the Spirit, Living Torah (the real everlasting Oral Law), is our Personified Halakha (perfect means of fulfilling all of the Written Law of Moses). The righteous works of the Ruach Chen v’Emet (Spirit of Grace and Truth) is our Personified-Divine “Reign from Heaven.” The rain-reign of Adonai has been supplanted by the traditions of men (Jewish rabbinates, false Christian teachers, etc.).
The Royal Law of the leadership and guidance of the Spirit of Holiness is irreplaceable.
The traditions of men are all replaceable (and even now are being rejected and replaced). No one in the messianic kingdom will be called Rabbi. For only ha-Mashiach will be our (one) Rabbi. We will need no other. We will accept no other. And we will hear no other. For the Voice of ha-Mashiach is the Ruach HaKodesh Himself. He alone is the One we will listen to, hear, and obey! Without the omnipresent, omnipotent Holy One and His saving-Indwelling Presence we could never be raised from death to the new life of perfect righteousness that we have for so long hoped for and longed for.
The fulfillment of Pesach:
Shemini Atzeret is like Shavuot because both festivals serve to complete (facilitate a conclusion, atzeret) to their respective spring and fall festival season observances. Just as Shavuot is a one-day festival that completes the seven day festival of Pesach, so Shemini Atzeret is a one-day festival that completes the seven day festival of Sukkot. The counting of the omer takes fifty days. Therefore, the conclusions to both Sukkot (Shemini Atzeret) and Pesach (Shavuot) speak of the spiritual liberation (Jubilee) that is ours through the gift of the Administration of Adonai’s Grace by the Holy Spirit (the New Heart, our Living Torah, our One Living Halakha (i.e. sing.: “walking in the Spirit”), which is the Royal Law of Heaven!
The fulfillment of Sukkot:
Shemini is the Hebrew word for the number “Eight.” The eighth day speaks of our physical and spiritual liberation from time. Seven days is a ‘complete’ unit of time. Every Jewish week is completed with a seventh day called Shabbat (the Sabbath). Therefore the eighth day identifies a new beginning.
First, the eighth day is the day that post-exists time. Second, the eighth day marks a time that follows after the completion of time. Third, the eighth day is the day that becomes a place where we shall exist in an eternal state that is beyond time. Fourth, Adonai said, “Remain with Me (atzeret) an extra day.” This day that Adonai speaks of is not an ordinary twenty-four hour day. It is a day that will never end. Fifth, the completion of Sukkot is an “extended” stay of fellowship (for all eternity) living in our permanent dwelling (not temporary shelter) of Eternal Light with our Beloved Father in His Home that is prepared for the righteous angels and His redeemed-resurrected-glorified family.
Therefore, Shemini Atzeret is a celebration of our eternal fellowship with Adonai Avinu in a place, state of being that is beyond time, where we will dwell forever in the new heavens and the new earth.
